Andy attended Virginia Military Institute for 3 years before going to work for S.J. Groves & Sons where he was attached to the engineering and survey department on the I-295 Beltway Project around Richmond, Virginia. Switching gears a bit in Spring, 1987 he went to work for a private land surveyor who also built 3-4 houses a year. It was here that he received much of his hands-on experience from laying the block and framing the houses to trim and finish work as well as installing the cabinets. Working full-time and also attending college, Andy received his B.S. degree from Virginia Commonwealth University’s School of Business in December, 1991. August of 1992 found him working for Quality Building Products selling the installation of insulation, garage doors and a variety of other products to contractors. From sales Andy rose into management and was assigned to the Charlottesville, Virginia branch in 1996. A few years later he moved to the Outer Banks with that company and in 1999 began a professional relationship with John Macko overseeing his account and working with Macko Construction’s two field supervisors. Then in December, 2002, John and he forged a new relationship with Andy handling Project Management for the construction side of Macko Construction. Together with Brian Susco, they took the company from 14 employees to 20 thus adding two more construction crews and spinning off one that specialized in hurricane shutters. In February, 2006, Andy, Brian and a third partner, Scott Schneider, bought the company from John Macko.
